“Previously, we did hosting for companies and managed over 200 servers, but three years ago we transitioned from traditional hosting to the cloud,” says Lance Cheang, Founder, VLAN Technology Sdn Bhd.

“For customers, the cloud provides less downtime and more stability because there’s no maintenance, bandwidth, power, or space issues, which greatly reduces their risk.”

While this was an important step towards enhancing operations — VLAN also saw this as an opportunity to grow its business by providing productivity solutions to customers.

Forging the right partnerships to help businesses grow

To create effective, scalable solutions that could meet the unique needs of its customers, VLAN forged partnerships with Microsoft, Rhipe, an IT service management company and Zendesk, a customer service software company, for which VLAN is Malaysia’s only registered partner.

VLAN then created a synergy between the three that enables customers to scale up licenses seamlessly – so they can benefit from Office 365’s cloud-based features, such as being able to work and collaborate from anywhere, data security, and 99.9% uptime.

With the Cloud Solution Provider (CSP) program, VLAN is able to respond to the changing needs of its customers – whether it’s a company that’s growing its workforce, or a business that‘s downsizing and wants to optimize operations.

“We created a system that integrates with our upstream provider and Office 365,” relates Mr. Cheang. “VLAN’s system manages subscriptions from one portal for greater efficiency, automates reporting for accurate billing and provides a transparent overview of what our customers are using. This system, together with the services VLAN provides, such as Microsoft CSP, Microsoft SPLA, Rhipe CSP Programs and other SaaS as part of a single value added services platform for both our customers and soon as a white label to our peers and other partner services for cross collaboration.”

Delivering a seamless Office 365 provisioning experience

Most crucial of all, is VLAN’s ability to provide seamless provisioning of Office 365 to customers based on growth. With its system, all a customer has to do to request new Office 365 licenses is send an email, then the request is automated through Zendesk and procured through Rhipe, which then provides a password to the customer — drastically reducing the licensing turnaround time and improving security.

Aside from providing customers with an easier way to get the business enhancing benefits of Office 365, the system also improved VLAN’s business efficiency by reducing costs without compromising on customer service.

Finance Manager Job Purpose:

Responsible for the financial health of a company or organisation. Producing financial reports and developing strategies based on financial research. Guiding senior executives in making sound business decisions in the long and short term.

Finance Manager Job Duties:
  • Monitor the day-to-day financial operations within the company, such as payroll, invoicing, and other transactions
